 Bath

Only 20 minutes by car, a visit to Bath is a must, with its Roman origins and its Georgian Splendour, wonderful independent shops and a wealth of cafes and restaurants.

The Roman Baths are well worth a visit as are the new Thermae Baths.

Why not visit the Thermae Spa, where you can bathe in Britain’s only naturally warm, mineral rich waters just as the Celts and Romans did over 2000 years ago.

Salisbury

The fascinating city of Salisbury is only 1 hour from Church Farm. No visit would be complete without a tour of the magnificent cathedral, the medieval city walls and ‘The Close’, famous for its Queen Anne houses.

Local Villages

The pretty Cotswold villages of Lacock, Castle Combe, Bradford on Avon and Biddestone are nearby.

They are quintessentially English with beautiful old cottages, Saxon/Norman churches, village greens, duck ponds and babbling brooks and are in great demand for films and TV.

Prehistoric Sites

Wiltshire is famous for Myth and Legend with plenty of prehistoric mysteries. Not to be missed are The World Heritage Sites of Stonehenge, Avebury, West Kennet Longbarrow, The Sanctuary and Silbury Hill. All these special sites are within 30 minutes of Church Farm B&B. In addition, Wiltshire is the home to the unique spectacle of eight white horses and many fantastic crop circles.

National Trust & English Heritage

This area has a wealth of National Trust and English Heritage Properties.

Lacock Abbey and Village, Dyrham House, Great Chalfield, Prior Park and Bowood are all close to us. It is also rich in Stately homes, castles and historic sites like Longleat, Corsham Court, Roundway Hill, and Farleigh Castle.

You could stay in Hartham and take a few days to enjoy these wonderful historic places.

Gardens

This part of North Wiltshire is rich in beautiful gardens to visit during the summer. Highly praised are Malmesbury’s Abbey House Gardens, The Courts at Holt, Iford Manor, Stourhead, Hanham Court and Sheldon Manor. Lots participate in the National Gardens Scheme.

Only 8 miles from Church Farm, we have the world-renowned Arboretum at Westonbirt, which also hosts music concerts, both Pop and Classical. You can combine a summer picnic with seeing conservation in action and spend time walking in the lovely grounds.

Festivals

During the summer months, you could enjoy a feast of song and dance at the Womad Festival near Malmesbury.

Also near here is the annual Chippenham Folk Festival, which is attended by thousands. B&B Accommodation is always at a premium for these events, so book early.

Golf

If golf is your game, you will be spoilt for choice – there are many courses within 30 minutes e.g Bowood (shown in photograph), Castle Combe, Cumberwell, Kingsdown, Chippenham and North Wilts.

Castle Combe Race Track

Only 10 minutes from here is the Castle Combe Race Track. They run courses on the Skid Pan as well as Track Days and Race Days, not to mention the giant Car Boot Sales in the summer months.

Equestrian Events

If you prefer 4 legs, then head to Bath Races, offering quality flat racing in a spectacular location above the city of Bath itself.

The other International Equestrian event that takes place locally, is the Badminton Horse Trials. This premier 3 day eventing competition draws 250,000 people during the meeting. You can stay at Church Farm and drive to the course in just 20 minutes.

Canals

If you are looking for a more gentle activity, you can find it on the Kennet and Avon canal. The picturesque Caen Hill Locks flight are near Devizes, just 8 miles from the farm.

Swindon

A little further afield is the Swindon Designer Outlet which is great for shoppers and The Great Western Railway Museum; with lots of interest for steam enthusiasts.

Walking & Cycling

Walking and cycling around here is very popular with many waymarked walks like the Macmillan way and the Ridgeway and lots of cycle paths.

Come and breathe the wonderful fresh country air and watch out for our local wildlife. You could see deer, hares, buzzards, pheasants and the odd fox, all found regularly in our fields.

Ideal for Business Trips

If you are here for work, there are many Business Parks in the area e.g Methuen Park, Leafield Estate, Corsham Media Park, Hartham Park and Bath Road Estate. Corsham is about to become one of the main homes for the MOD with development taking place at Basil Hill, Copenacre and Park Lane.

Church Farm welcomes business people, offering a home from home with free WIFI and work tables for your use in the bedrooms. In addition to the B&B rooms, we also have self-catering flats which can be ideal for commuters working Mon-Fri in the area.
